Dreams of the Late

After my alarm went off this morning I fell back to sleep. I dreamed the strangest dream.

I don't remember all the details, but I remember that the sky suddenly changed from sunny blue to slate grey. The ground, previously green, changed to snow covered hills. The warm, spring air went frigidly cold, and I could see my breath upon it.

I strolled alongside a friend as she searched for her husband. She wanted to deliver a personal note to him, and she urgently searched through the strom for any sign of him.

In the still and quiet of the rapid snowfall, I suddenly heard a high pitched whine. I glanced up in the sky, and above the grayness, I saw lighter grey shapes, like swiftly flying birds in the sky. I realized they were aircraft and a shiver went down my spine that had nothing to do with the chill in the air.

As my friend and I walked behind a grove of trees we heard vehicles approaching. A man shouted into a bullhorn, asking people to come join him. He promised salvation, and many people ran along to follow. I didn't trust him. He followed every sentence he spoke with a high pitched, eerie laugh that made me question his sanity.

Several vehicles filled with the man's soldiers followed closely behind him. Suddenly, they turned in different directions and began searching through the city. My friend and I tried to stay behind trees and buildings as we crawled through the snow looking for a way to escape. I had to drag my friend because she wanted to stay and look for her husband. But something told me we only had a small window of time in which to escape whatever this man and his army had planned. Words can't express the sense of panic and fear I felt as we reaced through the storm.

Thankfully the snow continued to fall, hiding our footprints as we rushed through the city looking for a way out. We slid down a hill on our bellies and ended up at the town harbor. Only a few boats remained because the water began to freeze. We jumped into the frigid ocean and swam, shivering, to the nearest boat. The captain looked down at us and asked, "What the hell are you doing here?"

.... then my daughter woke me up. Which didn't hurt my feelings because it was a really freaky dream. I guess that'll teach me not to go back to sleep when the alarm goes off!

Have a wonderful day!
